March 2007 -  Iqaluit: Commissioner's Spring Levee

    The Honourable Ann Hanson and her husband, Robert, welcomed over 200 guests at their Spring Levee on March 2, 2007 at Inuksuk High School in Iqaluit.

    

    The  Air Cadets Squadron 795 of of Iqaluit stood on guard in full formation as Commissioner Hanson performed her official inspection.

    

    The Aqsarniit Choir sang "O' Canada",  then Elder Martha Michael proceeded with the lighting of the qulliq. Reverend Michael Gardener offered a prayer for the occasion

    

    Commissioner Hanson presented seven Commissioner Awards to deserving citizens of  Iqaluit, incuding one bravery award, two awards for volunteerism and four awards for acquisition of special skills.

    

    Jacopoosie Tiglik and his group lead the singing of Hymn 132 to express the gratitude of the community towards their local heroes.

   

    The guests were then treated to a drum-dancing and throat-singing performance led by Neevee Hanson and the Aqsarniit Choir.

   

    An array of refreshments were served , including the piece de resistance -- a large decorated cake prepared by the Northern Stores bakery.

   

    Kaina Nowdlak and his band then led guests into square dancing by playing their repertoire of engaging music.

   

    Many people contributed to the success of this event,  including a group of grade 11 students and some of their teachers from Inuksuk High School.

   

    Pirurvik  arranged all the entertainment for the Commissioner's annual event - a tribute from Commissioner Hanson to her local host community.
